Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a Richmond, Virginia native, owner and pastry chef of JC Dessert, an online dessert boutique based here in the heart of Richmond.
I got into making pastries & desserts as a kid baking for the family either for special occasions or just because. Watching my father cook growing up really made the biggest impression on me as a child, which, unknowing at the time, helped create the love & passion I have for baking now at 32!
After traveling around the east coast throughout my career, I've been more than happy to settle back down in Richmond and grow JC Desserts into a Richmond staple.
From sun up to sun down, what’s your ideal day in RVA?
An ideal day for me would be to finish my work day a little after noon while the sun is still shining, take an afternoon walk, or bike ride on the Capital Trail, Canal Walk, or any number of local trails. Then head over to Carytown for dinner and a little shopping. Ending it with a show or live event!

What would you say is Richmond’s best-kept secret?
Richmond's best-kept secret is its diverse scenery. From Belle Isle to Carytown, Scott's Addition, and much more, Richmond has a lot to offer, and it's all within a short drive!

BLK RVA is all about supporting the thriving Black businesses and culture in the Richmond region and encouraging tourists to do the same. What’s one thing every visitor MUST do/see when they come to our region.
I encourage everyone to take a trip to Brown's Island and walk over the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge. Being that close to the river on that scenic of a walk is more than therapeutic!

Where are you from originally?What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re staying close to home in RVA?
One thing I love doing being from here is actually driving around parts of town I've never been to before. As someone who can get caught up in normal day-to-day travels, breaking things up and discovering somewhere new in town is something I love!

When we say the name BLK RVA, what does that mean to you?
BLK RVA means tradition, heritage, history, but also growth. There are so many black-owned businesses, history, and influential people here. BLK RVA is the perfect spot to discover it all.
